Welcome!

I’ve had an idea percolating for awhile now. I’d put it on the back burner for many months, thinking it could take too much time, seeing as how I work a full-time job, am a full-time mom, and (happily) divide my time between my house and my significant other’s. But it just would not go away.

My day job: high school teacher. It’s a job I’ve both loved and loathed, depending on the ever-changing composition, the politics, and the workload (not to mention the pandemic). The kids keep it interesting, keep me doing it.

Yoga keeps me sane.

Like many others, I started practicing yoga as an antidote to life’s stressors. I wanted to learn more, so I took courses on mindfulness and then on how to teach it. Following that, I earned my yoga teacher certification.

I’ve managed, through training and persistence, to expand my teaching course load to include mindfulness and yoga. It’s not always easy to teach these practices to distracted teenagers, but it’s always worth it.

I spent a lot of time looking for resources for these courses, but in most cases ended up creating my own. So then I started thinking others might be looking for the same things… And then I wondered whether there was a way I could include my photography (my first intro, by the way, to mindfulness as a practice – before I even knew what the word meant). Serene Teaching is a hub for mindfulness, yoga, and creativity (including writing, photography, art, and more) resources for teachers.

Here’s what I discovered about creating this new thing: It is worth every minute I spend doing it. Because I love it, it doesn’t feel one bit like work.

This is just the beginning. I hope you’ll be back. 🙂
